You will never go wrong with a velvet cushion (unless all your sofas and chairs are velvet in which case avoid and back away from the velvet - you can have too much of a good thing) but if you have a mix of linen and corduroy (it’s coming resistance is futile) then away you go. This is man-made velvet which is tougher than cotton velvet which stains if you even look at it. Layer them up in tonal shades or mix with stripes and plains in other materials. Don’t even think about buying a matching pair.

Instead you need to mix and match your colours, designs and shapes to really create a micro decor scheme within the whole. Make a list of colours in the room - all of them - and pick cushions in varying tones of light or dark and then add combinations of those colours in varying patterns.
