Rugs
They really do come in every shape and size, so the choice can be a little overwhlming. We’ve edited the best rugs in town down to a convenient 50 for you to sink into.

- Print bear motif cotton rug H&M HOME
It can be hard to justify things for kids rooms that they will grow out of really fast but this is £20 and it’s really sweet. Comes with anti-slip protectors on the back.
- NINA Round Ecru Braided Rug with Tassels Maisons du Monde
Round rugs can be tricky but they work well in kids’ rooms as they can either go by the bed or double up as a designated play area - a house, or a space for Lego for example. This one comes in a range of pastel shades that will suit most colour schemes. It’s a metre in diameter.
- Syma Lion Child's Rug La Redoute
A big rug made from polypropylene with the STANDARD 100 label which means that every component has been tested for harmful substances and found safe (often going above and beyond standard national and international limits). At 120cm x 170 cm it’s a good size too and its soft wool effect will make it comfy for lying on.
- Print-motif cotton rug H&M HOME
The grown up colour palette will appeal to parents who are freaking out at the primary colour aspect of parenthood and I’ve yet to meet a small child that didn’t go through a phrase of planes, trains and automobiles. Or even Lego villages.
- Zoupiou Child's Rug with Teepee Motifs La Redoute
A really fun rug in muted colours that might not fight with the rest of your house. Pull out the navy, mustard and pink to create a room that’s much more colourful albeit in muted shades rather than primary.
- BLACKTHORN Rug House of Hackney
If you like William Morris but fear it’s a little too staid for your tastes then what about this. Look more closely… see it? The gothic skull lurking in the middle? Definitely a modern heirloom piece it’s made by Axminster from British wool.
- Florence Broadhurst Japanese Floral Rug John Lewis
Florence Broadhurst was an Australian designer whose murdered body was found in her flat with two cups of tea beside her. The killer has never been found. But her designs live on and a group of British women obtained the licence to produce her designs on lamps, cushions and surprisingly affordable rugs. This is one of my favourites. If it’s not big enough for your space then layer it with plain cream and another of blue and white stripes.
- Orla Kiely Sunflower Orange Rug John Lewis
Yes it’s completely distinctive but as long as you don’t go overboard with anything else this will work as a centrepiece in any room – avoid the cliché cushions and go for the rug.
- Patchwork CarpetVista
I am (fairly) reliably informed that Soho House sources some of its rugs from here. These patchwork rugs are made from older Turkish carpets that have been cut down and stitched together thus giving them a new lease of life and at a much more affordable price than an original. You’ll need to set aside some time to browse but if this is your vibe you’ll be glad you did.
- How to get a feature wall right ON THE BLOG...
Feature walls have been controversial for a long time as interior designers try to persuade, often to no avail, homeowners why they shouldn’t have them. I have, however, worked out the problem and if you adopt this technique a feature wall will always look brilliant.
- Missoni Home Botanica Round Rug AMARA
Oh this is just lovely if you have a dressing room or similar space and want something that isn’t remotely practical but that will make your heart sing every time you see it. Interiors should be fun don’t forget that. Round rugs can be tricky as they can be hard to anchor to the furniture leading to rug islands but in bedrooms this is less of an issue so you can have fun with unusual shapes.
