- Solidus bedside table La Redoute
This is a much more modern look from La Redoute and is made from sustainable Suar wood which is similar to teak but has a stronger grain. It’s 52cm high and 30cm square. If you like lots of storage but fear losing things in the deep dark recesses of drawers this could be the one for you. It also comes in a natural finish and is perfect for stacking books current and future, notebooks, handcream and lipsalve as well as a glass of water and the charging station. It’s a way of being very organised and very tidy in a minimal and attractive way.
- Handpainted school chair Rockett St George
I remember writing about these chairs years ago on the blog and I still love them now. These vintage school chairs have been reconditioned and updated to fit a more modern kitchen (or a traditional one come to that). Various colours available this is the new way to do mismatched – same shape different colours.
- Pink & clear recycled glass vase Graham & Green
One of the best treats I bought was a monthly flower subscription and this tapered vase with its pink handle is the perfect partner for them. Use it for water when the flowers aren’t there too. One of those simple things that will bring pleasure every time you see it on the shelf or in the middle of the table.
- Vita Sofa Love Your Home
Presenting my very own sustainable sofa designed in collaboration with Love Your Home and made in the UK, every part of this collaboration considers its environmental impact. The wooden frame is FSC-certified and guaranteed for life, and inside there is recycled chip foam that would otherwise have ended up in landfill, and ‘Cocolok’ coconut fibre which is dipped in natural latex and used instead of petroleum foam. The seat structure is made from traditional coil sprung springs, which means the ‘Vita’ sofa will last longer and will not collapse after a few years as many modern sofas do due to feathers and foams collapsing.
- Do Less Harm ON THE BLOG...
This is a directory of companies that are genuinely trying to Do Less Harm. It’s probably not in the format that it will end up in but it’s a start. I wanted you to see what companies are doing to reduce their harmful impact on the planet so that you, when you shop, will know what questions to ask and can base your purchasing decisions, not just on the colour and size of the new item you want, but also perhaps on what will happen to the old one if they take it away or what packaging it will arrive in.
- Organic Cotton Bedding Set Wearth London
An organic cotton set that includes a fitted sheet in sateen weave (which means soft rather than the crisper percale feel) and a choice of pillowcases. It's made from 100% GOTS and Soil Association certified organic cotton which is pesticide and toxic chemical-free and each duvet cover and sheet comes in a cotton drawstring bag which can be re-used - perfect for collecting dirty laundry when on holiday (yes I know what's one of those) and also packing shoes. Also comes in aquamarine and chocolate plum colour.
- Tiptoe New Modern Desk Made In Design
You can find the individual legs that clamp onto any top over in outdoors and dining tables, but this is a desk from French company Tiptoe. The powder-coated steel legs (infinitely recyclable) are covered in epoxy paint (made from eco-friendly resin) while the top can be chosen from either eco-certified wood, recycled or laminate plastic, made from waste yoghurt pots meaning each one has different bursts of colour. They come in lots of different sizes and are flat-packed to reduce storage and space while shipping. Would also work brilliantly as a dining table and you could buy some legs separately to create your own bench or stool seating.
- Tiptoe Base Leg Made in Design
I have been a fan of this French brand since it launched and am thrilled to bring it to you on Design Storey. Basically you buy the legs (and oddly they are sold singly although you can buy two and use a shelf attachment to fix your top to the wall) and you can clamp them onto anything you want to use as a table top - so a bit of leftover kitchen counter, a salvaged door, a piece of tempered glass - and create your own table. They come in lots of colours and different heights so you can make a dining table or desk (75cm) or a bench or low table. So simple so clever. Made from powder-coated steel and epoxy paint (which is made from eco-friendly resin).
- Desert Armchair Made in Design
The powder-coated steel structure of this Danish designed (Ferm Living) armchair is covered in a seat fabric made from 53 recycled plastic bottles. It's weatherproof but would also look great inside and the arms will mean it's easier to get up out of than your classic deckchair.
- Oaxaca Outdoor rug Made in Design
Now I tend to have mixed feelings about outdoor rugs preferring the grass or a pretty patio tile underfoot but if you have horrid concrete slabs then I'm all for prettying it up a bit. And, given the price of this handwoven eco (polyethylene) rug - just north of £2k - you will be relieved to know that it works indoors as well as out. It is very resistant to water, weather and UV light but the design - a floral always loves a geometric - means it will work brilliantly in the sitting room either on its own or layered up with a faded Persian rug for example. Or, even better, under the kitchen table where it is basically wine and toddler proof.

- Bell Stackable Armchair Made In Design
The problem with garden furniture is the space it can take up when you need to store it during the winter. These stackable chairs by Magis solve that problem and, if you don't want to stack them (on a balcony or in a garden) then they work perfectly indoors round the kitchen table. And they're made from recycyled polypropylene, from waste collected at the Magis factory (and local car factories) in Italy which is a brilliant way for a company to use its own waste. It can also be recycled at the end of its life. Winning. Oh and it's £80 a chair, which is a good price.
