- Harriet Wall Light Anthropologie
This is perfect if you are tight for space on the bedside table or at the end of the sofa. Fix it as low as you can for a deliberately intimate look and swing it out of the way when not needed. There’s a black version too.
- Hand-Tufted Cassia Rug Anthropologie
I appreciate this might be a little marmite but the petal-shaped edges are what turn this from a floral overload to something a little more “design”. Also if you have plain bedding, or a plain sofa then this is absolutely the piece to elevate the room and create a wonderful focal point. It also frees you up to paint your walls in almost any colour you choose. I’d go dark green but there are all the pinks, creams and a couple of yellow options as well.
- Francesca Kaye Planter Anthropologie
The prettiest planter I ever did see. I love the sculptural nature of the flowers stuck on the side and this will look just as pretty empty on a shelf as filled with seasonal plants. It’s crying out to be displayed on an open pantry shelf.
- Old Havana Baking Dish Anthropologie
The right tableware can elevate the humblest of dishes and this is perfect for bringing a little style to a Monday night Shepherd’s pie. It’s a huge collection in either this mint green or blue and there are canisters, pie dishes and bowls in the range.
- Meriah Gauze Throw Blanket Anthropologie
There’s something so joyful about this blanket that shouts about summer even in the depths of winter. The Nordic nations change their curtains and cushions with the seasons and there’s no reason why we can’t do that here. That said if I had a large enough wall I would be tempted to hang it as a decoration.
- Arlia Rattan Lounger Nkuku
Nothing like a rattan lounger to make you feel like you are already on holiday even if it is a bit cold at the moment. This is on pre-order though so you can practice getting in the mood and be ready to leap outside as soon as clocks change.
- Mayra 120cm Dimeter Round Aged Metal Dining Table La Redoute
I bought this table – although I must confess it was on offer when I saw it so it was cheaper. But pedestal tables are great for smaller spaces as the look – by the time you have added the chairs – is cleaner and less cluttered. None of Eero Saarinen’s “slum of legs” which was the reason he designed the famous Tulip table. Adding metal, this has a slight bronze effect, can be a good contrast if you have a wooden floor and lots of wooden furniture. Be warned it does scratch – we use mats – so if that bothers you this probably isn’t for you.
- Set of 2 Gary Office Trestles designed by E. Gallina La Redoute
These trestle legs in wood and leather are a great way to create your own dining table. Either buy your own piece of tempered glass or wood or use a vintage door or length of worktop. Works well as a desk too.
- Private Single Lined Pre-Washed Linen Curtain with Eyelets La Redoute
You’ll never go wrong with a washed lien curtain panel. If you don’t like the eyelet fixing and you have a sewing machine you can cut the top off and sew on some ruffle tapes so turn them into a more traditional curtain. You can also add blackout or thermal lining and it will be much cheaper than going bespoke. If a single width feels mean for the size of your window then buy four singles (or two pairs) and double up to create extra fullness. La Redoute also does velvet ones.
- Deutzia Striped Reversible Linen Pillowcase La Redoute
Stripes always look good on bedding and this reversible pillowcase allows you to create that slightly mismatched look simply by flipping one side or the other. Also if you have a sleeping partner who hates cushions on beds then buy pretty pillowcases that look as good as cushions but you don’t have to throw them off at night.
- Side table with storage Zara Home
Made from ply with a mid-century feel it’s on wheels so you can move it to where you need it. It’s 68cm deep and 83cm wide – if you’re looking at alcoves don’t forget the skirting boards when you measure. It’s the details on this one that are what makes it stand out – the cut out handles for moving it, the shorter doors creating a shadow gap at the top and the visible layers of ply. It’s £399 but looks much more expensive.
- Urku candlestick crackle lamp Nkuku
They are sold separately but I love a mismatched pair so if that’s your vibe buy one of each. You can then have the same lampshades (I would) or have different but toning ones. As we’re nodding to trends as we go along then buy a pair of plain cream paper shades and use up leftover tester pots by painting patterns on them à la Charleston House.
