The good news is it's only 42cm deep, which is big enough for A4 storage (amply so) as well as plates and crockery – but means you might, just, have room for it in a hall or kitchen. Sideboards are great in home offices as places to conceal ugly files and printers etc.

USM is a Swiss company that was created in the 60s to furnish a factory making ball bearings. The joy is that it is all adaptable and customisable so you can start with a small bedside table and extend and adapt it into an entire media unit. The colours are deliberately restricted so that you can be sure of an exact match with a piece you bought thirty years ago. Known more for their commercial spaces, USM are moving into residential with their adaptable, durable and classic designs. Pricey, but will genuinely last you a lifetime.
