- Francesca Kaye Planter Anthropologie
The prettiest planter I ever did see. I love the sculptural nature of the flowers stuck on the side of this, and it'll look just as pretty sitting empty on a shelf as when it's filled with seasonal plants. It’s crying out to be displayed on an open pantry shelf.
- Old Havana Baking Dish Anthropologie
The right tableware can elevate the humblest of dishes – and this is perfect for bringing a little style to anyone's Monday night shepherd’s pie. It’s part of a huge collection in either mint green (as here) or blue and there are also canisters, pie dishes and bowls in the range.
- Meriah Gauze Throw Blanket Anthropologie
There’s something so joyful about this blanket that shouts summer even in the depths of winter. The Nordic nations change their curtains and cushions with the seasons and there’s no reason why we can’t do the same here. That said, if I had a large enough wall I'd be tempted to hang it as a decoration.
- Private Single Lined Linen Curtain with Eyelets La Redoute
Window dressings are expensive. But you’ll never go wrong with a washed linen curtain panel. If you don’t like the eyelet fixing and you have a sewing machine, you can cut the top off and sew on some ruffle tapes to turn it into a more traditional curtain. You can add your own blackout or thermal lining much more cost-effectively than buying bespoke. Plus, if a single width feels mean for the size of your window then just buy four singles (or two pairs) and double up to create extra fullness. La Redoute also does velvet ones.
- Deutzia Striped Reversible Linen Pillowcase La Redoute
Stripes always look good on bedding and this reversible pillowcase allows you to create that slightly mismatched look simply by flipping one side or the other. Also, if you have a sleeping partner who hates cushions on beds then buying pretty pillowcases that look as good as cushions means you can achieve a comparable effect but don’t have to throw them off at night.
- Urku candlestick crackle lamp Nkuku
These are sold separately, but I love a mismatched pair of candlesticks – so if that’s your vibe too, why not buy one of each? You can then have the same lampshades (I would) or have different but toning ones. Or, since we’re nodding to trends as we go along, you could buy a pair of plain cream paper shades and use up leftover tester pots by painting patterns on them, à la Charleston House.
- Hem Bedside Table in Blush John Lewis
Where to source good bedside tables is one of the great mysteries of life. I often go vintage as that brings an element of character and patina to a room that tends to be full of softness. But when you do find a good contemporary design you need to strike as soon as you can. And here we are - £129 with a fashionable scallop and lots of storage. It’s made from rubberwood and MDF, which means you can easily paint it if you change your décor. Also comes in cream.
- Gleaming Primrose Vanity Tray Anthropologie
I’m not sure that many of us have dressing tables any more – partly for space reasons and partly, perhaps, for time. We're more likely to stand at the bathroom mirror than sit down at a table carefully applying lipstick and powder. But if you do like to have a dressing table, this would be so pretty. Alternatively if you have a desk in the bedroom then removing it for the laptop during the day and returning it at night will add to the changeover between work and home that so many of us have lost as the commute has fallen from favour. Also, this would work brilliantly in the sitting room with drinks on. A gorgeous present that will last forever.
- Set Of 2 Leopard Print Candles Rockett St George
There’s no doubt that leopard print has been everywhere for a couple of years now and if you feel it’s too much of a cliché on clothes and homewares then the key is to put it in unexpected places. These candles are that. So you can stop there. Or you can add a candlestick. Or you can give a single candle and the promise (better the proof of booking) of a dinner out at some point during miserable January. The two-stage present works well for me as my husband has a January birthday and I have to be careful not to use up all my inspiration the month before.

- SET OF SIX PEONY GLASSES Graham & Green
After the annual wisteria hysteria on Instagram comes #peonyseason as these gorgeous, but short-lived flowers take over everyone’s feed. You can make the moment last longer with this very pretty set of coloured glasses. They’re made from blown glass but are dishwasher safe and will last far longer than the real thing. Unless, of course, you drop them.
